The documentary photo series “He keeps me alive” focuses on the deep, emotional connection between a 67-year-old man, András, and his loyal dog, Maci. András lives in modest circumstances, keeps himself from pensions, and shares only with his dog, partly isolated from society everyday. In the past, he has also worked as a locksmith and printer, but has tried many professions. Previously fought with alcohol problems, his family relationships have deteriorated: he has a son but they don’t keep in touch. The only company and spiritual support is the dog to whom he directs all his love, care and attention. The series was mostly made in András’s residence in Gyomro. The three -month intensive photography gave me the opportunity to really capture deep and emotional moments. The dog is not only a companion, but also an emotional support - a symbol of loyalty, care and responsibility. The images reveal a relationship that goes beyond the usual owner-dog relationship: it is the story of interdependence and unconditional love.
